120 grams of King Cole big value DK in Colour 1

20 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Colour 2

4.50mm crochet hook, 2 buttons


TENSION - 5dc and 5 rows measures approx 1 Inch


Tip.   Carry each unused colour under each stitch

Back - # With 4.50mm hook and colour 1, make 9ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (8dc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 44 rows have been worked in all from beginning. Do not turn.


Working into row ends along side of rib work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each row end to end. Turn. (44dc)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. #


Rpt last row until 54 dc rows have been worked from rib or work measures approx 11.5 inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Front - Rpt from # to # on back of sweater. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 3dc, using colour 2, (see Tip), work 1dc into each of next 12dc, pick up colour 1 and work 1dc into each of next 12dc, pick colour 2 and work 1dc into each of next 12dc, pick up colour 1 and work 1dc into each of last 4dc. Turn.


Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked. Turn.


Using colour 1 and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row once. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 15dc, using colour 2, work 1dc into each of next 12dc, pick up colour 1 and work 1dc into next 16dc. Turn.


Rpt last row until 12 rows have been worked. Turn.


Using colour 1 and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row three times. Turn.


First Half of Front Split - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 20dc, turn leaving 23dc un-worked.


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 14 dc rows have been worked from split. Turn.


Shape Neck - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 15dc, turn leaving 5dc un-worked. (16dc)


Dec Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, dec 1dc over next 2dc, (see abbrev) 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (15dc)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last 2 rows twice.


Rpt Dec Row once. Fasten off. (12dc)


Second Half of Front Split - Return to un-worked 23dc at split, miss 2dc, join colour 1 to next dc, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (21dc)


Rpt rows from First Half of Front Split until you Shape Neck. Fasten off.


Shape Neck - Miss 5dc, join colour 1 to next dc, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. (16dc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last 3dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. (15dc)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last 2 rows twice.


Next Row - (dec row) 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last 3dc, dec 1dc over next 2dc, 1dc into last dc. Turn. Fasten off. (12dc)


Join shoulder seams.


Sleeves x 2 - With 4.50mm hook and colour 1, make 9ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (8dc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt last row until 26 rows have been worked in all from beginning. Do not turn.


Working into row ends along side of rib work 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each row end to last row end, 2dc into last row end. Turn. (28dc)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off. Turn.


Next Row - Join in colour 2, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn.


[ Increase Row - 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to last dc, 2dc into last dc. Turn.


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Rpt last row once. ]


Fasten off.


Join in colour 1 and rpt from [ to ] until you have 44dc and 27 rows from rib, work should measure approx 6.5 Inches from beginning. Turn. Fasten off.


Buttonhole/button Bands - With 4.50mm hook, colour 2 and RS facing, starting at lower front edge on right hand side of opening, work 13dc evenly along to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each of next 4dc, 8dc up side of neck, 1dc into each of next 20dc along back, 8dc down side of neck, 1dc into each of next 4dc, 3dc into corner, 13dc evenly down front edge to end. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 3dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 8dc, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc down second front edge. Turn. (2 buttonholes made)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc to neck edge. Fasten off.


Return to opposite front edge with colour 2, RS facing and working from neck downwards make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each 2ch space and dc to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Working on wrong side of sweater, fold sleeves in half lengthways, place centre to shoulder seams and over sew into position. Over sew side and sleeve seams together. Weave in any loose ends of yarn, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
