100 grams of King Cole big value DK in Colour 1

30 grams of King Cole big value DK in Colour 2

4.00mm crochet hook

3 small buttons


TENSION - 5tr and 3 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Sweater Back (Rib) - # With 4.00mm hook and colour 1, make 7ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (6dc)


Next Row - Working into back loop only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end.


Rpt last row until you have 35dc rows in all. DNT.


Working along the side of rib, work 3ch, 1tr into each row end. Fasten off. Turn. (34tr + 3ch)


Bobble Row - Join in colour 2, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc * MB (see abbrev) into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11 Bobbles)


Next Row - Working over the Bobble Row into the first tr row, join in colour 1 to top of of 3ch, make 3ch, fptr around next tr, * 1dc into top of bobble, 1fptr around each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (see abbrev for fptr)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end. Turn. (35dc)


Pattern Row 1 - 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 six more times or until work measures approx 6.5 Inches from beginning (including rib). Fasten off. Turn. You can do more or less rows here if you wish. #


Back Split - Join in colour 2, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 16dc. Fasten off, turn leaving 18dc un-worked.


Bobble Row - Join in colour 1, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc * MB into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (5 Bobbles)


Next Row - Working over the Bobble Row into the tr row, join in colour 2 to top of of 3ch, make 3ch, fptr around next tr, * 1dc into top of bobble, 1fptr around each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end. Turn. (17dc)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 four more times until work measures approx 10 inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Return to un-worked dc, miss 1dc, rejoin colour 2 to next dc, make 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Fasten off. Turn.


Starting with Bobble Row work second half same as first. Fasten off.


Sweater Front - Rpt from # to # on back of sweater.


Join in colour 2, make 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Fasten off. Turn. (34tr + 3ch)


Bobble Row - Join in colour 1, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc * MB into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (11 Bobbles)

Shape Neck


Side 1 - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 11tr, turn leaving 23dc un-worked. (11tr + 3ch)


2nd Row (Dec Row) - 1ch, dec 1dc (see abbrev) over first 2tr, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (11dc)


3rd Row - 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Turn.


4th Row (Dec Row) - Rpt 2nd Row (10dc)


5th Row - Rpt 3rd Row.


6th Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off.


Shape Neck


Side 2 - Return to remaining stitches on front neck, miss 11dc, join colour 2 to next tr, make 3ch, 1tr into each of next 11dc. Turn. (11tr + 3ch)


Row 2 (Dec Row) - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 9tr, dec 1dc over next tr and 3ch to turn with. Turn. (11dc)


Row 3 - 3ch, 1tr into each tr to end. Turn.


Row 4 (Dec Row) - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each of next 8tr, dec 1dc over next tr and 3ch to turn with. Turn. (10dc).


Row 5 - Rpt Row 3.


Row 6 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - Starting with rib and colour 1, make 7ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (6dc)


Next Row - Working into back loop only make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end.


Rpt last row until you have 24dc rows worked in all. DNT.


Next Row - (Inc Row) Working along the side of rib, work 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 22 row ends, work 2tr into last row end. Fasten off. Turn. (25tr + 3ch)


Bobble Row - Join in colour 2, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next dc * MB into next tr, 1dc into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, working last dc into top of 3ch. Fasten off. Turn. (8 Bobbles)


Next Row - Working over the Bobble Row into the first tr row, join in colour 1 to top of of 3ch, make 3ch, fptr around next tr, * 1dc into top of bobble, 1fptr around each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end. Turn. (26dc)


Increase Row - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each dc to last dc, 2tr into last dc. Turn. (27tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt last 2 rows until you have 34dc in total, rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once, or until sleeve measures approx 5 Inches from beginning (including rib). Fasten off.


Join shoulder seams by over sewing with needle and yarn, fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing centre folds to shoulders over sew into position, over sew side and sleeve seams together.


Neck Edge - Using colour 1 with RS facing, start at base of split on right side of back opening, work 15dc evenly up back edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc along top of back edge to shoulder, 8dc evenly down first front edge, 1dc into each of next 11dc across centre of front, 8dc evenly up second front edge to shoulder, 1dc into each dc along the top of the back edge, 3dc into corner, 15dc evenly down back edge to end. Turn. (75dc)


Next Row - (Buttonholes written for a girl, swap sides for a boy) work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each dc around neck to next corner, 1dc into corner, * make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each of remaining dc. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to corner. Fasten off.


Return to opposite back edge and working from neck downwards, rejoin yarn to corner, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in and trim off any loose ends of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
