Fondant (1241) and Bluebell (1082)

1.10oz of Light Worsted Weight #3 in colors 2 & 3

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks

5 novelty buttons in each of blue and pink, 1 animal appliqué


GAUGE - 5dc and 2.5 rows measure approx 1 Inch using 4.00mm hook

Boys Cardigan (Back) - # Using color 1 and 4.00mm hook, ch47, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (44dc + ch3)


Pattern Row 1 - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * bpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn with, bpdc around next dc, 1dc in next dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn with, fpdc around next dc, 1dc in next dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 25 rows have been worked or work measures approx 10.2 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Right Front - ch23, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn.

(20dc + ch3)


Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * bpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc and ch3 to turn with, bpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Row 3 - ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn with, fpdc around next dc, 1dc in next dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Rpt Rows 2 & 3 until 21 rows have been worked. Turn.


Shape Neck - Rpt Row 2 until last 3dc and ch3 to turn with, turn leaving these stitches un-worked. (16dc + ch3)


Next Row (Dec Row) - ch3, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in next dc, follow from * on Row 3 to end. Turn. (15dc + ch3)


Next Row (Dec Row) - Rpt Row 2 until the last 2dc, dc2tog and ch3 to turn with, work bpdc around next dc, dc2tog over next 2 stitches, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (14dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn with, fpdc around next dc, 1dc in next dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. Fasten off.


Left Front - ch23, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (20dc + ch3)

Shape Neck - Skip 4dc, rejoin yarn to next dc, ch3, 1dc in each of next 3dc, follow 2nd Row from * to end. (16dc + ch3)


Next Row (Dec Row) - ch3, rpt 3rd Row to last 4dc and ch3 to turn with, fpdc around next dc, 1dc in next dc, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (15dc + ch3)


Next Row (Dec Row) - ch3, dc2tog over next 2 stitches follow from * on

2nd Row to end. Turn. (14dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc,

Sleeves x 2 - ch29, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn.

Next Row - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * bpdc around next dc, 1dc in each 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc and ch3 to turn with, bpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, 2dc in top of ch3. Turn. (28dc + ch3)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * rpt from * to * to last 4dc and ch3 to with, fpdc around next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Keeping continuity of pattern, (see pic) increase 1dc on next and every alternate row by working 1dc in base of ch3 and 2dc in top of ch3 at the end of the row, continue until 40dc + ch3 remain.














Work 2 rows in pattern as set without shaping until 16 rows have been worked or sleeve seam measures approx 6.5 Inches, Fasten off.


Cuff - With WS facing and using color 2 (or color 3 if making girls) join to cast on edge, work ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. Work 2 more rows of sc. Fasten off. (27sc)


Using 5.00mm hook sl st or over sew shoulder seams together using needle and yarn. Fold sleeves in half lengthways, place centre of sleeve to shoulder seams and sl st or over sew in position. Join side and sleeve seam together in same way. Turn through to RS. #


Button/Buttonhole Bands - Working on WS of work with color 2, start on lower edge of left hand front edge, ch1, work 42sc evenly in row ends along first front edge to neck, 3sc in corner, work 13sc evenly along first neck edge to shoulder, 1sc in each of next 16sc across back, 13sc evenly along second neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 42sc evenly in row ends down second front edge to corner, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each ch along cast on edge of first front, back and second front, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck, 1sc in corner, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 9sc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in remaining sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc and the five ch2 spaces (buttonholes) to end, working 3sc in corners. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Attach animal appliqué


Girls Cardigan - Rpt same as for boys cardigan from # to #


Frill - With RS facing join in color 1 to staring ch on left hand front, ch3, * work 2dc in each ch across the first front, back and second front along bottom edge of cardigan to last ch, 1dc in last ch. Turn. (171dc + ch)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Bands - Working on WS of work with color 3, join yarn  to lower edge on frill of left hand front edge, ch1, work 45sc evenly in row ends along first front edge to neck, 3sc in corner, work 13sc evenly along first neck edge to shoulder, 1sc in each of next 16sc across back, 13sc evenly along second neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 45sc evenly in row ends down second front edge to corner on frill, 3sc in corner, work 1sc in each dc along frill edge of bottom of cardigan to end, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc along frill to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 2sc, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 10sc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. (5 Buttonholes made)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc up first front to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck edge to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc and the five ch2 spaces (buttonholes) to end of button band. (do not work along frilled bottom edge) Fasten off.


Flower Motif - (Worked in rounds without turning) With color 1 make a magic circle, using 4.00mm hook work ch1, 10sc in circle, close circle pulling loose thread, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (10sc)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 2dc in each sc to end, sl st to top of ch3. Fasten off. (19dc + ch3)


Next Row - Join in color 3 with a sl st to top of ch3, work (ch3, 3dc, ch3, sl st) in base of ch3, * skip 1dc, work (sl st, ch3, 3dc, ch3, sl st) in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, skip last dc, sl st to first sl st. Fasten off. (10 Petals)


Finishing - Weave in and trim off all loose ends of yarn. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Attach flower motif.
