Sweater Back - # With color 1, ch7, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (6sc)


Rib - Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 41 rows have been worked in all from beginning. DNT.


Row 1 - Working in row ends along side of rib, ch1, (WS) 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each row end to end. Fasten off. Turn. (41sc)


Join in color 2.


Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip 1sc, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * end. Turn.


Row 3 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * dc2tog in next ch1 space, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (20, dc2tog) #


Skipping dc2tog's not sc's rpt Rows 2 & 3 seven more times until seventeen rows have been worked from rib or work measures approx 6 Inches from beginning. Turn.


Divide for Back Opening


First Side - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip dc2tog, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * eight times, 1sc in next dc2tog. Turn leaving 21 stitches un-worked.


2nd Row - ch1, 1dc in base of ch1, 1sc in next sc, * dc2tog in next ch1 space, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (9, dc2tog)


3rd Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip dc2tog, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 1sc in dc. Turn.

Shape Neck


First Side - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch1, skip dc2tog, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * five times, 1sc in next dc2tog. Turn leaving 27 stitches un-worked.


Next Row - ch1, dec 1sc (see abbrev) over first 2sc, * dc2tog in next ch1 space, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


Skipping dc2tog's not sc's rpt Rows 2 & 3 from back three more times until thirty one rows have been worked from rib or work measures approx 10 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Second Side - Return to 27 un-worked stitches, skip 13 stitches, rejoin color 1 to next dc2tog, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next sc, * ch1, skip dc2tog, 1sc in next ch, * rpt from * to * end. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * dc2tog in next ch1 space, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last ch2 space & 2sc, work dc2tog in ch1 space, dec 1sc over 2sc. Turn.


Skipping dc2tog's not sc's rpt Rows 2 & 3 from back three more times until 31 rows have been worked from rib or work measures approx 10 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With color 1, ch7, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (6sc)

Increase Row 3 - ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next sc * ch1, skip dc2tog, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, 2sc in last dc. Turn.


Increase Row 4 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dc2tog in next sc, 1sc in next sc * dc2tog in next ch1 space, 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, dc2tog in next sc, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (33st)


Skipping dc2tog's not sc's on Row 2, rpt Rows 2 & 3 from back 5 more times until 15 rows have been worked from the rib or work measures approx 5.5 Inches from beginning. Fasten off.


Assemble Sweater - With WS facing, sl st loosely or over sew with needle and yarn shoulder seams together, fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing centre folds to shoulder, sl st or over sew in position. Join side and sleeve seams together by over sew or slip stitching.


Button/Buttonhole Bands - (Written for a girl swap sides for a boy) With RS facing and color 1, start on base of back split, work 19sc evenly in row ends up back edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 7 stitches across top of back edge, 9sc down first front edge, 1sc in each of next 13st along front, 9sc up second front edge, 1sc in each of 7 stitches along back, 3sc in corner, 19sc evenly in row ends down second back edge. Turn. (87sc).


Next Row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc up back edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 16sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 11sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 16sc, 1sc in corner, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 6sc, * rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of remaining sc. Turn.


Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc and ch2 space to end. Fasten off.


Return to button band, working from neck downwards, join color 1 to centre sc of 3sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end. Fasten off.


Pocket (optional) - With colour 1, ch9, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (8sc)


Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in sc to end. Turn.

Rpt last row until 8 rows have been worked in all from beginning. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in and tie off any loose threads of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, attach pocket to front of sweater.
