Small amounts of King Cole big value baby DK in each contrast colour

OR

3.5ozs of Light Worsted Weight #3 yarn in Main Color Yarn
Small amounts of Light Worsted Weight #3 in each of the 3 Contrast Colors

4.00mm Crochet Hook

3 Small buttons

GAUGE - One (3dc group, sc) and 2 rows of pattern measures approx 1” square

Yoke - Worked in one piece. Using 4.00mm hook and main color ch55, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end (52dc + ch3) Turn.

 

Row 2 - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc and ch3 to turn, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in last dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (65dc + ch3).

 

Row 3 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

 

Row 4 - (Inc Row) ch3, 1dc in next dc * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc

* rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (86dc + ch3)

Row 5 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

Row 7 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn

Row 9 - (Divide for armholes and Increase) ch3, 1dc in each of next 4dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * 5 more times, 2dc in next dc, skip 27dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, rpt from * to * 16 more times, 2dc in next dc, skip 27dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, rpt from * to * 6 more times, dc in each of next 3dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (128dc + ch3)

 

Commence Skirt - With 4.00mm hook, ch3, work 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, skip 1dc, 3dc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc and ch3, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, skip 1dc, 2dc in top of ch3. Turn. (31, 3dc Groups)

Pattern Row 1 - Work in back loop only of all sc's from now on, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1dc, 3dc in next sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last sc, dc and ch3, skip 1dc, 3dc in last sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in top of ch3. Turn.

Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc group, skip 1dc, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group and sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc group, work 2dc in last sc. Turn.

The last 2 rows form the pattern rpt both rows until 14 rows have been worked in all from yoke or work measures 9 inches from shoulder.

Using first contrast color work Pattern Row 2, Fasten off. Using second contrast color work Pattern Row 1. Fasten off. Using third contrast color Work Pattern Row 2. Fasten off.

Join in main color and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once each, until 19 rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 10.5 inches from shoulder. Fasten off.

Sleeves x 2 - With WS facing rejoin main color yarn to side of dc underarm, ch3, 1dc in same space, * 1sc in next dc, skip 1dc, 3dc in next dc, skip 1dc, * rpt from

* to * across to side of dc on opposite side of sleeve, work 1sc in side of dc, sl st to top of ch3. Turn. (7, 3dc Groups)

Pattern Row - Working in back loop only of all sc's, ch1, sl st in first sc, ch3, 2dc in same sc, * skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc group, skip 1dc, 3dc in next sc,

* rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.

The last row forms the pattern, rpt the row 8 more times, making 10 Pattern Rows in all. Fasten off.

Work Pattern Row once in each of the 3 contrast colors. Fasten off.

Join in main color and work Pattern Row twice. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Band - (Written for a girl, swap sides for a boy)

With main color, RS facing and starting on lower edge on right hand front, work 48sc evenly up right front to end. Turn.

Next row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 7sc, * rpt from * to * once more, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of the remaining sc. Turn.

(3 Buttonholes)

Next row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc and ch space to end. DNT. Starting with ch1, work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev above) Fasten off.

Button Band - With RS facing rejoin main color yarn to neck edge on left hand side of coat, working from neck downwards, work 48sc evenly to bottom. Turn. Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work two more rows in sc on these stitches turning at the end of each row. DNT. Starting with ch1, work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev above) Fasten off.
