80 grams of King Cole big value baby DK Yarn in Colour 1

20 grams of Stylecraft Special DK in Colour 2

4.00mm crochet hook

3 small buttons, 0.5 mtr of ribbon (approx)


TENSION - 4tr and 2.5 rows measures approx 1 Inch

Dress - Worked in one piece starting with yoke, using colour 1, make 47ch, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into the next 4ch, (front) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 7ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 15ch, (back) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 7ch, (shoulder) 3tr into next ch, 1tr into the next 6ch. (front) Turn. (52tr + 3ch)


Rows 2 to 6 - Make 3ch, * 1tr into each tr to 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group, 1tr into next tr, 3tr into centre tr on 3tr group, 1tr into each tr to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn.


You should have 92tr + 3ch at the end of Row 6. Fasten off.


Commence Skirt - Join in colour 2, work 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, make 2ch, * miss 2tr, (3tr, 2ch) into next tr, * rpt from * to * to centre tr on corner, (3tr, 2ch) in centre tr, miss 19tr (first armhole) 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, make 2ch, rpt from * to * to next corner, 3tr into centre tr on corner, make 2ch, (3tr, 2ch) in centre tr, miss 19tr (second armhole) 3tr into next tr, rpt from * to * to last 2tr and 3ch, miss 2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch, ss to top of 3ch on the beginning of row to make a round. Turn. (19, 2ch spaces)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) (picot made) into next 2ch space, 1dc into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space and tr, (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) into 2ch space, 1dc into tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off. (19 picots)


Join in colour 1


Pattern Row 1 - 3ch, 1tr into next dc, * 2ch, miss picot, 1tr into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last picot and dc, work 2ch, miss picot, 1tr into last dc, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) into next 2ch space, 1dc into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space and tr, (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) into 2ch space, 1dc into tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 twice. Fasten off. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 in colour sequence as follows:-


Once in colour 2. Fasten off.

Three times in colour 1. Fasten off.

Once in colour 2. Fasten off.

Twice in colour 1. Fasten off.


Button/Buttonhole Borders - Starting with RS facing on lower edge of right hand side of back opening, rejoin yarn to side of tr on the skirt, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 13dc evenly up first back edge to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch around neck to next corner, 3dc into corner, 14dc evenly down second back edge. Turn.


Buttonhole Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into dc around neck edge to next corner, 1dc into corner, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into next 5dc * rpt from * to * once, make 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into remaining dc. Turn. (3 Buttonholes made)


Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc and 2ch space to corner. Fasten off.


Return to first side of back opening and working from neck downwards make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, decorate with ribbon.


Bonnet - With colour 1, make magic circle, work 11tr into circle, pull loose thread to close circle, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. DNT. (11tr + 3ch)


Row Two - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 2tr in each of next 11tr, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. DNT. (23tr + 3ch).


Row Three - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into next tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. DNT. (35tr + 3ch).


Row Four - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2tr into next tr, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (47tr + 3ch)


Row Five - Working into front loops only, make 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * (3ch, ss into 3rd of 3ch) 1dc into each of next 5tr, * rpt from * to * to last 6tr, (3ch, ss into 3rd of 3ch) 1dc into next tr, 2dc into next tr. Turn leaving last 4tr un-worked.


Row Six - 3ch, 1tr into next dc, * 2ch, miss picot, 1tr into each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to last picot and 2dc, work 2ch, 1tr into each of last 2dc. Turn.


Row Seven - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) into next 2ch space, 1dc into each of next 3tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space and tr, (1dc, 3ch, ss to 3rd of 3ch, 1dc) (picot made) into 2ch space, 1dc into tr, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Rpt Rows Six & Seven twice. Fasten off.


Rpt Rows Six & Seven once in colour 2 and once in colour 1. Fasten off.


Back Frill - With crown towards you and working into loose loops (back loops of the front loops previously worked on Row Five), join in colour 2, make 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next tr, * (3ch, ss into 3rd of 3ch) 1dc into each of next 5tr, * rpt from * to * to last 6tr, (3ch, ss into 3rd of 3ch) 1dc into next tr, 2dc into next tr. Fasten off.


With RS facing, rejoin colour 1 to front of bonnet, working along neck edge, make 3ch, work 2tr into each row end to end. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in any loose ends of yarn, thread ribbon through alternate tr's along neck edge.
