With WS facing, using 5.00mm hook and main color yarn, sl st or over sew with needle and yarn the shoulder seams together.


Back Opening and Neck Edging - With RS facing and 4.00mm hook, join main color yarn to base of back opening on right hand side, ch1, working in row ends, work 14sc evenly up first side of back opening to neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 17sc evenly around and down first side of front neck edge, 1sc in each of next 12hdc, work 17sc evenly up and around second side of front edge to next corner, 3sc in corner, 14sc evenly in row ends down second side of back opening. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in each sc up back edge to corner, 1sc in corner, ch31, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, 1sc in same corner, 1sc in each sc around neck to next corner, 1sc in corner, work ch31, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, 1sc in same corner, 1sc

in each sc to end. Fasten off. DNT.


With 4.00mm hook, rejoin main color yarn, working left to right work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev) up first back edge, around neck and down second back edge. Fasten off.


Bib Border - With RS of work facing and 4.00mm hook, join main color yarn to centre st on cast on edge of back, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to corner, 3sc in corner, work 74sc evenly in row ends along back and front of bib to next corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along cast on edge on front of bib to next corner, 3sc in corner, work 74sc evenly in row ends along front and back of bib to next corner, work 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of remaining ch across to center back, sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc around bib to end, working 3sc in all four corners, sl st to first sc. Fasten off. DNT.


Next Row - Working from left to right with main color yarn work one row of crab stitch all around sides of bib working 2 stitches in each corner. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn.


Flower Motif - Make 3 in main color and 1 in contrast color

Made in continuous rounds without turning. Make a magic circle, With 4.00mm hook, ch1, work 12sc in circle, pull loose thread to close circle, sl st to first sc.


Next Row - ch1, sl st in base of ch1, * 4dc in next sc, sl st in next sc, * rpt from

* to * to last sc, work 4dc in last sc, sl st to first sl st. Fasten off. (6, 4dc groups)

 

Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends, sew contrast color flower motif over main color on centre and front of the bib, sew main color motifs evenly along onto band of contrast color, decorate each one with a ribbon rosebud.


Replace flowers with cars if for a boy








Car Motif x 2 - With 4.00mm hook and a contrast color, ch13, 1sc in second ch from hook, 1sc in ch to end. Turn. (12sc) Work three more rows in sc, making 4 rows in all.. Fasten off. Turn.


Next Row - Skip first 4sc, rejoin yarn to next sc, ch6, skip 2sc, 1trc in each of next 2sc, ch4, skip 2sc, 1dc in last sc. Turn.


Edge - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 4sc in ch4 space, 1sc in each of next 2trc, 6sc in ch6 space, 1sc in next 4sc, working down side of car, work 1sc in each of next 4 row ends, 1sc in each of 12 cast on chains, working up second side of car, work 1sc in each of next 4 row ends, 2sc around side of dc, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Wheels x 4 (2 for each car) - With 4.00mm hook and black yarn, ch4, sl st to first ch to form a ring, work 8sc in ring, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn attach car motifs over band of contrast color on front of bib.
