Starting with yoke - With 5.00mm hook, make 44ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each of next 3ch, (front), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 8ch, (shoulder), 3tr into next ch, 1tr into next 12ch, (back), 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 8ch, (shoulder), 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 5ch. Turn. (49tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into next 5tr, 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 10tr, 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 14tr, 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 10tr, 3tr into next tr, 1tr into next 5tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (57tr + 3ch)


Continue increasing on the corners in the same way as the last row until a further 4 rows have been worked, making 6 rows in all. (89tr + 3ch)

Using contrast colour yarn and starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 row of 1dc into each tr and 1ch space to end. Fasten off.


Coat Edging - With RS facing, rejoin yarn to lower edge of coat, work 2dc into each row end to neck, 1dc into corner. Turn. Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch and turning at the end of each row, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc. Turn.


Next Row (Buttonholes) - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc in next 5dc, * rpt from * to * once, 2ch, miss 1dc, 1dc into each dc to end. Turn. Starting with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc and ch space to end. Fasten off.


Return to second front edge, working downwards from neck edge start with 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, work 2dc into each row end to bottom of coat, 1dc into corner. Turn. Starting with 1ch work 4 more rows of 1dc into each dc turning at the end of each row. Fasten off.


Hood - With 6.00mm hook, make 46ch, change to 5.00mm hook, work 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end. Turn. (45dc)


Next Row - 3ch, miss 1dc, (3tr, 1ch, 3tr) into next dc, * miss 1dc, 1tr into each of next 2dc, miss 1dc, (3tr, 1ch, 3tr) into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 2dc, miss 1dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn. (9 groups)

Rpt last row 7 more times, making 9 rows in all. Fasten off.


With WS facing and 6.00mm hook, fold hood in half width ways and ss or over sew with needle and yarn cast on edges together.


With 5.00mm hook and WS facing re-join main colour yarn to neck edge on hood, starting with 1ch, work 40dc evenly along to end, turn, change to 6.00mm hook, make 1ch, missing button/buttonhole bands on both sides, attach hood to coat by ss or over sewing with needle and yarn, through each cast on ch on coat and dc on neck edge of hood. Fasten off.


Edge Coat & Hood - Using contrast colour yarn and 5.00mm hook, with WS facing start with 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, work 1dc into each dc up front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each row end along top of button band, 1dc into each tr and 1ch space around hood, 1dc into each row end on buttonhole band, 3dc into corner, 1dc into dc down second front edge, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each row end along bottom of buttonhole band, 1dc into each tr and 1ch space along bottom of coat, 1dc into each row end along bottom of button band, 1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends of yarn, close small gap under arms, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
