Coat - Worked in one piece, starting with yoke, using 3.50mm hook and main color ch60, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in the next 6ch’s (back), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in next 10ch’s (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 18ch’s (front), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 10ch’s. (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 8ch’s (back). Turn. (65dc + ch3)


2nd Row - (Inc Row) ch3, * 1dc in each dc to next 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to ch3 to turn with, work 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (73dc + ch3)

 

3rd to 6th Row - rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (105dc + ch3)

 

7th Row - (Increase & Divide for Armholes) - ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in next dc,* rpt from * to * to centre dc of the first 3dc group, 2dc in centre dc, skip next 22dc, 1dc in centre dc of next 3dc group, rpt from * to * to centre dc of next 3dc group, 2dc in next dc, skip next 22dc, 1dc in next dc, rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, 1dc in dc, 1dc in top of ch3, Turn. (90dc + ch3)


Commence Skirt - ch2, 1hdc in base of ch2, * skip 1dc, vst in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc and ch3, skip 1dc, 2hdc in top of ch3. Turn. (44 vst)


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 2hdc, dc3tog (see abbrev) in next ch1 space, ch1, * rpt from * to * to end, 2dc in top of ch2. Turn. (44 dc3tog, 3dc + ch3)


Pattern Row 1 - ch2, vst in each ch1 space to end, work 1hdc in top of ch3. Turn. (45 vst)


Pattern Row 2 - ch3, * dc3tog in next ch1 space, ch1, * rpt from * to * to last ch1 space, dc3tog in ch1 space, 1dc in top of ch2. Turn. (45 dc3tog, 1dc + ch3)


Pattern Row 3 - ch2, 1hdc in base of ch2, skip dc3tog, vst in each ch1 space to end, 2hdc in top of ch3. Turn.


Pattern Row 4 - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, ch1, * skip 2hdc, dc3tog in next ch1 space, ch1, * rpt from * to * to end, 2dc in top of ch2. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 to 4 twice until 14 pattern rows have been worked from the 7th Row or work measures approx 8.5 Inches from shoulder. Fasten off.


Join in contrast color and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - Rejoin main color to side of dc underarm were you divided for armhole, ch3, 1dc in same space, 1dc in each of next 22dc, 2dc in side of dc on opposite side of sleeve, sl st to top of ch3. Fasten off. (25dc + ch3)


Next Row - Join in contrast color with a sl st to top of ch3, ch2, * skip 1dc, vst in next dc, * rpt from * to * to last dc, work (1hdc, ch1) in last dc, sl st to top of ch2 on beginning of row. Turn. (13 vst)


Next Row - ch3, dc2tog (see abbrev) in ch1 space at base of ch3, ch1, work (dc3tog, ch1) in each ch1 space to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Fasten off. (13, dc3tog)


Buttonhole Band (Written for a girl, swap sides for a boy)

With main color, RS facing and starting on lower edge on right hand front, work 38sc evenly along to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along neck edge to next corner, 3sc in corner, work 38sc evenly along second front edge to end. Turn.

 

Next row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck to next corner 1sc in corner * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 5sc, * rpt from * to * once more, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of the remaining sc to end. Fasten off. (3 Buttonholes Made)


Flower Motif (Made in continuous rounds without turning) -

With contrast color, make magic circle, using 3.50mm hook ch1, work 12sc in circle, pull loose thread to close circle, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. (12sc).


Next Row - ch4, 1dc in base of ch4, * ch1, 1dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, ch1, sl st to 3rd of ch4 on beginning of row.


Petals - * (sl st, ch3, 2dc, ch3, sl st) in next ch1 space, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sl st. (13 Petals)


Finishing - Close small gap under arms, weave in any loose ends, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, attach flower motif to coat.
