Cardigan - Worked in one piece, starting with yoke, using color 1 ch55, (RS) 1dc
in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in the next 6ch’s (Front), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in next 8ch’s
(shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 17ch’s (Back), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in
the next 8ch’s. (shoulder), 3dc in next ch, 1dc in the next 8ch’s (Front). Turn.
(60dc + ch3).
2nd Row - (Inc Row) ch3, * 1dc in each dc to next 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc
in centre dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group, 1dc in next dc, 3dc
in centre dc of 3dc group, 1dc in each dc to end, work 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (68dc
+ ch3)
3rd to 8th Row - rpt 2nd Row. Turn. (116dc + ch3)
9th Row - (Divide for Armholes) - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each of next 15dc,
2sc in next dc, skip next 24dc, (armhole) 2sc in next dc, 1sc in each of next 33dc,
2sc in next dc, skip next 24dc, (armhole) 2sc in next dc, 1sc in each of next 15dc,
1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (73sc)
Commence with Skirt - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * skip 1sc, 3dc in next ch, (ch1,
1sc, 1hdc, 1dc) around the post of the last dc made, skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc, *
rpt from * to * to end. Turn.
Next Row - ch3, 2dc in base of ch3, * skip 3st, 1sc in ch1 space, skip 2dc, 3dc in
next sc, (ch1, 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc) around the post of the last dc made, * rpt from *
to * to last group and sc, skip 3st, 1sc in ch1 space, skip 2dc, 3dc in last sc.

Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 2dc in base of ch3, * skip 3st, 1sc in ch1 space, skip 2dc,
3dc in next sc, (ch1, 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc) around the post of the last dc made, * rpt
from * to * to last group and sc, skip 3st, 1sc in ch1 space, skip 2dc, 3dc in last
sc. Turn.
Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 12 rows have been worked in all from the yoke. Fasten
off.
Join in color 2 and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.
Join in color 1 and work Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once. Fasten off.
Sleeves x 2 - With RS facing, rejoin color 1 to centre dc of 3dc under arm, ch3,
1dc in each of next 24dc, 1dc in centre dc of 3dc on opposite side of sleeve under
arm, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (25dc + ch3).
Next Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.
Rpt last row until 8 rows have been worked from yoke, change to color 2 and rpt last
row twice, change back to color 1 and rpt last row once, sleeve seam measures approx
5 Inches.
Work 1 row of crab stitch. (see abbrev) Fasten off.
Button/Buttonhole Bands -
Buttonhole Band - With RS facing, join color 2 to lower edge of right hand side of
front edge, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 40 more sc evenly up first front edge to
corner. Turn.
Next Row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in next 6sc
* rpt from * to * once, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of remaining sc to end. Turn.
(3 Buttonholes made) (swap buttonholes to opposite side for boy)
Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc to neck edge. Fasten off.
Button Band - Working from neck edge downwards on opposite front edge, join in color
1, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 40 more sc evenly in row ends to end. Turn.
Starting with ch1, 1sc in base of ch1 and turning at the end of each row, work 2
more rows in sc. Fasten off.
With RS facing join color 1 to top of button band on left hand neck edge, work crab
stitch across button band, first front, back, second front and buttonhole band edges.
Fasten off.
Finishing - Close small gap under each arms, weave in any loose ends of yarn, attach
buttons to correspond with buttonholes.
