4.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks

11 decorative buttons


GAUGE - 5dc and 2.5 rows measure approx 1 Inch using 4.00mm hook

Cardigan (worked in one piece) Starting with yoke, using 4.00mm hook and color 1, ch49, (RS) 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end (46dc + ch3) Turn.

 

Row 2 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3, (57dc + ch3). Turn.

 

Row 3 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.

 

Row 4 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3dc * rpt from * to * to end working last dc in top of ch3. Turn. (71dc + ch3)

 

Row 5 - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn.


Row 6 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in next dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3 (94dc + ch3). Turn.

 

Row 7 - (Inc) ch3, 1dc in each of next 3dc, * 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 2dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (124dc + ch3). Fasten off.


Row 8 (Shape Armholes) - ch3, 1dc in each of next 18dc, skip 22dc, (first armhole) 1dc in each of next 43dc, skip 22dc, (second armhole) 1dc in each dc to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (80dc + ch3)

 

Commence Skirt - Change to 4.50mm hook, ch3, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn. Fasten off.


Join in color 2.


Row 2 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end. Turn. (81sc)


Row 3 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1fpdc around dc on row below last row worked, (sc row) 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. (40, fpdc)


Fasten off.


Work Rows 2 & 3 in color sequence as follows:-


Twice in color 1.

# once in color 2.

Twice in color 1.#


Rpt from # to # until four color 2 rows have worked in all from yoke or work measures approx 9 inches from shoulder. Turn.


Work Row 2 once. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With 4.50mm hook, WS facing and color 1, rejoin yarn to side of dc at base of armhole where you divided, ch3, 1dc in each of next 22dc, 1dc in side of dc on opposite side of sleeve, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. (23dc + ch3)


Second Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.


Join in color 2.


Third Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (24sc)


Fourth Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, * 1fpdc around dc on row below last row worked, (sc row) 1sc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last sc, 1fpdc around next dc on row below, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. (12, fpdc)


Fasten off.


Work Third & Fourth Rows twice more in color 1, rpt from # to # on skirt, slip stitching to first sc at the end of each row until three color 2 rows have been worked. Turn.


Cuff - Change to 4.00mm hook, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each st to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn. Work two more rows of 1sc in each sc, slip stitch to first sc at the end of each row. Fasten off. Underarm sleeve seam now measures approx 5 Inches.


Button/buttonholes Bands - With color 1 and 4.00mm hook, start on lower edge of right hand front edge, ch1, work 35sc evenly in row ends along first front edge to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch around neck to next corner, 3sc in corner, work 35sc evenly in row ends down second front edge. Turn.


Next Row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each sc, to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc around neck to next corner, 1sc in corner, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 7sc, * rpt from * to * 3 more times, ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of last 4sc. Fasten off.

(5 Buttonholes made)

 

Finishing - Close small gap under arms, weave in loose ends of yarn and dcim off, attach buttons to correspond with buttonholes.


Diaper Cover - With color 1 and 4.00mm hook, ch68, (RS) work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (65dc + ch3)


2nd Row - ch3, 1dc in each dc to end. Turn.


Rpt 2nd Row until 10 rows have been worked. Fasten off.


Shape Crotch - Skip 23dc, join yarn to next dc, ch3, 1dc in each of next 19dc, turn leaving remaining 22dc and ch3 to turn with un-worked. (19dc + ch3)


Decrease Row - ch3, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in each dc to last 3dc, dc2tog over next 2dc, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (17dc + ch3)


Rpt Decrease Row until 13dc + ch3 remain. Turn.


Rpt 2nd Row once. Turn.


Rpt Decrease Row once (11dc + ch3)


Rpt 2nd Row four more times.


Increase Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each dc to end, 2dc in top of ch3. Turn. (13dc + ch3)


Rpt 2nd Row once. Turn.


Rpt Increase Row until you have 19dc + ch3 remaining. Fasten off. (19dc + ch3) Turn. Fasten off.


Front Flap - ch6, work 1dc in each of next 19dc, 1dc in top of ch3, ch8, work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each of next 4ch, 1dc in each of next 20dc, 1dc in each of next 6ch. Turn. (31dc + ch3)


Rpt 2nd Row nine more times. Fasten off.


Contrast Color Border

Starting with RS facing and working along cast on edge, join color 2 to first ch, work 1sc in each ch (64), 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 22dc, * work 2sc in next row end, 1sc in next row end, * rpt from * to * to end of crotch, 1sc in each of next 5ch, 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 30dc, 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 5ch, rpt from * to * to end of crotch, 1sc in each of next 22dc, 3sc in corner, 2sc in each row end, 1sc in corner, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc all around diaper cover to end, working 3sc in corners, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Chain Tie - ch150. Fasten off.


Finishing -

Weave in all loose ends of yarn, thread chain tie through alternate dc's on waist and tie in a bow. If you prefer to leave front flap out, sew 3 buttons evenly down each side and use gaps between dc's on front flap as buttonholes. (see pic)
