4.00mm crochet hook

3 Small buttons

4 small decorative buttons for front of sweater (optional)


GAUGE - 5hdc and 4 rows of hdc's measures approx 1 Inch

Back - # ch38 loosely, work 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (35dc + ch3)


Rib - ch3, * 1fpdc around next dc, 1bpdc around next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. (see abbrev for fpdc & bpdc) Rpt last row twice. Turn.


Pattern Row - ch2, 1hdc in each dc to end, 1hdc in top of turning ch. Turn. # (35hdc + ch2)


Rpt Pattern Row until 15 rows have been worked from rib. Turn.


Divide for back opening - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 17hdc, turn leaving 18hdc un-worked.


Rpt Pattern Row until 8 rows have been worked from split. Fasten off.


Return to un-worked hdc's, rejoin yarn with a sl st to next hdc, ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Row until 8 rows have been worked or back opening measures same as first side. Fasten off.


Front - Rpt from # to # from back of sweater.


Pattern Row 1 - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 14hdc, 1fpdc around next hdc, 1hdc in each of next 4hdc, 1fpdc around next hdc, 1hdc in each of next 14hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 14hdc, 1bpdc around next dc, 1hdc in each of next 4hdc, 1bpdc around next dc, 1hdc in each of next 14hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until 18 rows have been worked from rib. Turn.


Shape Neck (Side 1) - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 11hdc. Turn. (11hdc + ch2)

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, dec 1hdc over next 2hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (10hdc + ch2)

 

Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, dec 1hdc over next 2hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (9hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch1, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1ht in top of ch2. Turn.

Fasten off.

 

Shape Neck (Side 2) - Return to remaining stitches on front neck, skip 12st, rejoin yarn to next st, ch2, 1hdc in each of next 10hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (11dc + ch2)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1hdc in each of next 8hdc, dec 1hdc over next 2hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (10hdc + ch3)

 

Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1ht in top of ch2. Turn.

 

Next Row - (Dec Row) ch2, 1hdc in each of next 7hdc, dec 1hdc over next 2hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (9hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Fasten off.

 

Sleeves x 2 - ch28, 1dc in 4th ch from hook, 1dc in each ch to end. Turn. (25dc + ch3)

 

Rib - ch3, * 1fpdc in next dc, 1bpdc in next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, 1dc in top of ch3. Turn. Rpt last row twice. Turn.


Row 1 - ch2, 1hdc in each dc to end, 1hdc in top of ch3. Turn.


Row 2 - (Inc) ch2, 1hdc in base of ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 2hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Rpt Rows 1 & 2 until you have 33hdc and ch2 left, Rpt Row 2 once. Fasten off. (You should have 9hdc rows worked from rib and 35hdc + ch2)


With WS facing, sl st loosely or over sew with needle and yarn shoulder seams together, fold sleeves in half lengthways, then placing centre folds to shoulder, sl st or over sew in position. Join side and sleeve seams together by over sew or slip stitching.


Button - Buttonhole Bands - (Written for a girl swap sides for a boy) With RS facing and starting on base of back split, work 11sc evenly in row ends up back edge, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 7hdc across top of back edge, 8sc down first neck edge, 1sc in each of next 12st along front, 8sc up second front edge, 1sc in each of 7hdc along back, 3sc in corner, 11sc evenly in row ends down second back edge. Turn. (70sc)


Next Row - (Buttonholes) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc up back edge to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of next 15sc, dec 1sc (see abbrev) over next 2sc, 1sc in each of next 10sc, dec 1sc over next 2sc, 1sc in each sc to next corner, 1sc in corner, * ch2, skip 1sc, 1sc in each of next 3sc, * rpt from * to * twice. Fasten off.


Finishing - Weave in and tie off any loose threads of yarn, sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes, place decorative buttons down centre on the front of the sweater.
